We start our journey at the iconic Train Cemetery. Here, you can explore and photograph the rusted skeletons of 19th-century steam locomotives, a striking contrast against the desert backdrop and a piece of Bolivia's mining history.
Next, we visit Colchani, the gateway to the salt flats. You will witness the traditional manual salt extraction process and visit a small museum made entirely of salt. It is also the perfect spot to find authentic llama wool handicrafts.
After a unique picnic lunch in the middle of the white desert, we hike up Incahuasi Island. Covered in giant ancient cacti, this rocky island offers the best 360-degree panoramic views of the Salar de Uyuni.
We end the afternoon with a magical Sunset Experience, enjoying Bolivian wine while the sky reflects on the salt. Afterward, we head to Villa Candelaria to check into your Salt Hostel (private ensuite room) for a cozy dinner.
Day 2 begins with a drive through the Valley of Rocks and the surreal Siloli Desert. This Mars-like landscape is home to the famous Stone Tree (Árbol de Piedra), a volcanic rock formation sculpted by the wind over thousands of years.
The grand finale of our trip. Located in the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve, the Red Lagoon is famous for its deep red waters and thousands of James', Andean, and Chilean flamingos. A truly National Geographic moment before we return to Uyuni.
This tour reaches high altitudes (up to 4,500m / 14,700ft). Most travelers feel short of breath but do not get sick if they are hydrated. Safety is our priority: Our cars are equipped with oxygen tanks for emergencies, and our guides are trained to help you. We recommend spending 1-2 days in La Paz or Uyuni before the tour to acclimatize.
We use the best available Salt Hostels in Villa Candelaria. You will have a private room with a private bathroom (not shared). The hostel provides hot water and thick blankets. While temperatures outside drop significantly at night, the hostel is comfortable. We still recommend bringing warm thermal pajamas.
Please bring Bolivian Bolivianos (BOB) in cash, as there are no ATMs in the desert. You will need approximately 250 - 300 BOB per person to cover the National Park Entrance Fee (approx. 150 BOB), Incahuasi Island fee (30 BOB), and use of public toilets on the way.
Absolutely! We specialize in personalized service. Whether you are vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free, our team will prepare delicious meals for you. Just please let us know your dietary restrictions at the time of booking.
Yes. You can charge your devices in the car (USB port) while we drive. The Salt Hostel also has electricity to recharge your batteries at night. However, we recommend bringing a power bank just in case, as electricity in the remote desert can sometimes be unstable.
