Itinerary

At 8:00 PM, we pick you up from your hotel in Santa Cruz to transfer you to the bus terminal. Please have dinner before departure, as it is not included this night. Board an overnight bus heading to Puerto Suárez. This comfortable journey allows you to rest while traveling through the night.

You should carry your valid identification documents, as they are required for travel within Bolivia.

Early the next morning, after arrival at Puerto Suárez, enjoy a hearty breakfast to prepare for the day ahead.

Then, board a 4x4 vehicle for an adventurous drive on dirt roads toward Puerto Bush, deep in the Pantanal wetlands. The route passes through Mutún, one of the world’s largest iron ore reserves. Along this route, you will likely spot the colorful Toco Toucan and other native bird species.

You will pass through military and park ranger checkpoints entering the protected Otuquis National Park, a vast and biodiverse wetland reserve.

After approximately 140 kilometers and two to four hours of travel, you reach Puerto Bush, located on the shore of the Paraguay River. This is the end of the drivable road.

The surrounding landscape is the true Pantanal: open floodplains, wetlands, and rich wildlife habitats. You may see marsh deer, anacondas, caimans, and many bird species. We will stop as needed to observe and photograph wildlife.

Optional: 1-Day Tour

If you have selected the 1-day, no overnight option, after lunch in Puerto Bush or nearby, you will start the return journey to Puerto Suárez or Puerto Quijarro to catch the night bus back to Santa Cruz.

Spend the day fully immersed in the Pantanal’s natural beauty. Activities include:

  • Early morning and late afternoon guided walks along forest trails to see jaguars (Panthera onca), pumas (Puma concolor), giant armadillos (Priodontes maximus), tapirs (Tapirus terrestris), and giant otters (Pteronura brasiliensis).

  • 4x4 safaris across floodable plains to spot capybaras, marsh deer, anacondas, and many bird species such as egrets, herons, and storks.

  • Canoe or motorboat rides (subject to water level and availability) to explore remote waterways.

  • Opportunities for birdwatching and photography in some of Bolivia’s richest ecosystems.

Enjoy traditional dinners and overnight stays in eco-friendly lodges or remote ranches that allow peaceful wildlife observation far from traffic and noise.

Start the morning with a 2 to 3-hour guided hike through the Pantanal trails, maximizing your chance to see wildlife in the early hours.

After returning to your lodge or ranch, prepare for the return journey. Travel back to Puerto Suárez or Puerto Bush by 4x4 and boat, stopping along the way for wildlife viewing and photos.

In the dry season, natural fires may occur in some areas; your guide will keep you informed.

You will arrive in Puerto Suárez around 6:00 PM. After dinner, prepare for the overnight bus back to Santa Cruz.

Arrive early morning in Santa Cruz after the overnight bus trip, concluding your unforgettable Pantanal adventure.
